We went to the pound on Sunday morning and there were only big dogs there. We said hello to them all, but we live in apartments and can only have a wee dog. The lady said sorry, but all the little dogs and puppies are snapped up quickly on Saturdays and we'd have to get in early on a Saturday to have a chance.

We went home, looked up the locations of the other pounds and found one that had some wee dogs. We called ahead. "We're interested in small Jack Russell kinda dogs." The lady was flustered but happy - "We have quite a few!" We drove over as soon as they opened. There were two young Jack Russell crosses, an older dog, and a puppy. The puppy was just too small and would need someone to be with it alltimes.

We went over to the young adults. "Bomber" was jumping up and down like he was on a pogo stick, while having a yappy energetic conversation with his much larger neighbour. "X" was shivering on a blanket at the back of his kennel. I knelt down and said hi. He walked over and looked at me. And looked at Willo. And looked at me.

The lady came over and asked if we'd like to take him for a walk, and we did, so we did. He stayed close to us and seemed happy. He was wary of big dogs and said hello to small dogs. There were steps back into the building and when we came to them, he practically flew up & over them - couldn't see his feet touch the ground. He hung around us while we chatted to the lady and she said, "What do you think?" and Willo said, "What happens next?" and she said it was a matter of filling out forms. "X" walked from his lap to my lap while we were listening about his kennel cough tablets and his microchip, and he ended up standing with his front paws on my thighs and his back paws on Willo's, bridging us both.

We had to buy supplies and my parents' house was halfway between the pound and the supermarket. My parents sat on the kitchen floor with the new friend and introduced themselves. By the time we came back, half an hour later, Dad was pleased to say that "X" could sit & stay.

We drove home and were almost there - we'd been trying to think up names all evening - just around the corner from home - bam. Jet. Jetpack.

He's a tiny little fellow. But he's great.

jetpack!
